The following information is direct from Translink’s website.

Bikes are allowed on West Coast Express (WCE) services at all times, with a maximum of two bikes per car.

Restrictions

  • Bikes with trailers are not permitted.

  • Two-wheeled electric and gas-powered scooters are not permitted.

  • You must not ride your bicycle anywhere on the trains, platforms, stations, or at bus loops.

  • Bikes must be clean and have no sharp edges that might cause damage or injury.

  • WCE staff may require cyclists to relocate or enter an alternate train. They may limit the number of bikes travelling together.

Bike Etiquette on West Coast Express

  • Avoid bumping into other passengers. Allow other passengers to enter and exit the train first.

  • Give priority to wheelchairs, scooters, strollers , and passengers with service animals, such as guide dogs.

  • Hold on to your bike at all times.

  • Use slip-covers for folding bikes.

While Translink says you must hold onto your bike at all times, in reality most train cars have spot to secure your bike with velcro straps. ***** ask Ken for more info (I think the cars have a bike symbol on the outside if you can put your bike on it)

Bikes on the Bus

All BC Transit & Translink buses are equipped with a bike rack capable of carrying two bikes. Taking your bike on the bus does not incur any additional cost to you & you only pay the normal fare. Click here for more information regarding E-bikes on transit.

Putting your bike on the bus

  • Before your bus arrives, remove items that may fall off or obstruct the drivers view. Examples: Panniers / Luggage

  • When the bus arrives & the driver has seen you, lower the rack by pulling on the handle in the middle

  • Place your bike on the available rack closest to the front of the bus, with the front wheel on the side with the support arm

  • Pull the support arm out, and swing it up & over your front tire as close to the frame of your bike as it fits. Confirm the bike’s wheels are secure in the track & the support arm is secure over the front tire

Let the driver know before your stop when you will be getting off & that you need to retrieve your bike. Lift the support arm off your front wheel, fold it down, and remove your bike. If there is no other bike on the rack, fold it back against the front of the bus by squeezing the middle handle and swinging the rack up toward the front of the bus.
